The Large Barrel Side-Exit Cable Gripper is a robust suspension interface engineered for secure, highly adjustable luminaire and architectural mounting. Designed to accept 3/64" to 1/16" aircraft cable, this component combines a reliable tool-less vertical suspension system with a rigid, threaded base attachment. The top push-button plunger acts as the entry point for the suspension cable, utilizing an internal ball-bearing clutch that automatically engages and locks the cable the moment tension is applied. Depressing the top plunger manually releases the internal clutch, allowing for rapid, smooth height adjustments without the need for specialized tools. Excess cable "tail" is routed out of the barrel through a lateral side-exit port, preventing cable congestion at the base and ensuring the bottom thread sits completely flush against the mounting surface. The base features a standard 1/4-20 male (external) thread for direct integration into threaded fixture housings or brackets. Crucially, the lower portion of the barrel features machined wrench flats, allowing installers to use a standard wrench to securely tighten the component without damaging the cylindrical body.

Designer’s Note

This large barrel gripper is ideal for fixtures requiring a strong, rigid connection point where the excess suspension cable cannot pass internally into the luminaire housing. When installing, always utilize the integrated wrench flats on the lower barrel to tighten the 1/4-20 thread into your fixture. Gripping the round upper cylinder with pliers can easily mar the finish or, under heavy torque, warp the internal locking mechanism.
