Bottom Side-Exit Cable Gripper (Male Thread)

The Bottom Side-Exit Cable Gripper is a specialized, single-cable suspension component engineered for secure, flush-mounting to lighting fixtures and architectural elements. It seamlessly combines an automatic internal locking mechanism with an external threaded base for direct structural integration. The gripper features a top push-button plunger that serves as the entry point for the primary suspension cable. Once inserted, an internal ball-bearing clutch automatically engages, safely holding the cable under tension. Pushing down on the top plunger manually releases the internal clutch, permitting smooth, rapid, and completely tool-less vertical height adjustments. The defining feature of this gripper is the large lateral slot machined into the lower section of the barrel. This slot catches the excess cable "tail" and routes it cleanly out the side, strictly preventing the wire from passing through the bottom of the fitting. Because the cable exits laterally above the base, the bottom is equipped with a solid external (male) thread. This allows the installer to screw the gripper directly and fully into a tapped luminaire housing or mounting bracket without the suspension cable causing internal obstructions.

Designer’s Note

This specific gripper is ideal for low-profile or enclosed luminaires where internal electrical components (such as LED boards or drivers) prevent suspension cables from passing down into the housing. When threading the base into your fixture, ensure the side-exit slot is oriented to safely route the excess cable tail away from visual sightlines. As with all friction-locked suspension components, always support the dead weight of the luminaire from below before depressing the top plunger to make height adjustments.
