1/16-inch Aircraft Cable (7×7 steel galvanized) (FO-36312)

The FO-36312 series 1/16-inch aircraft cable is engineered for high-performance tensile applications in commercial lighting, industrial fixtures, and architectural installations. This cable features a 7×7 construction, consisting of 49 high-strength carbon steel wires twisted into seven distinct strands. Each cable is zinc-coated via hot-dipped or electro-galvanization to provide superior rust and weather protection for both indoor and outdoor environments. With a breaking strength of up to 480 lbs and a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 95–96 lbs, this cable provides the reliability necessary for commercial fixture suspension, cable railings, signage support, and general industrial utility. As shown in the product selection guide, the cable is available in a wide range of lengths (50" through 144") and optional factory-terminated stud configurations to suit specific project requirements.

Factory Termination Options

To streamline on-site assembly, this cable can be ordered with factory-swaged end studs. Choosing the "1 End Stud" or "2 End Studs" configuration provides a pre-terminated, high-strength connection point, eliminating the need for field-crimping and ensuring maximum pull-out resistance. These factory-installed studs are precision-machined to integrate seamlessly with standard mounting hardware, canopy kits, and architectural attachment points, delivering a clean, professional finish while reducing installation labor time.

Designer’s Note: Installation Best Practices

For all structural terminations, utilize aluminum swage sleeves or ferrules crimped with a specialized hand tool; avoid knots or tape, which significantly compromise the rated tensile strength. Always cut the cable using sharp, dedicated cable cutters to prevent the individual wires from fraying or unraveling. When calculating loads, apply a minimum design factor of 5:1 and ensure that tension never exceeds the specified SWL. In outdoor or commercial fixture installations, verify that all anchor points and support structures are capable of handling the combined static and dynamic load. Consistent inspection for corrosion or wire fatigue is required, particularly in high-exposure environments.
